Daffodil Envy Strikes Again

It's a sad truth, but daffodil envy has struck again. It got me at the village show. Yet again my 'Pot of Growing Daffodils, division 1' got a 2nd place not the 1st it so justly deserves. I mean, what does a woman have to do around here to get first prize? Noooo! Have you seen the judges!
Two second and two third prizes and, well, my poor little camelia, the only one left on the bush after nearly a week of storms, didn't even get a second glance.
And if I ever find out where that old bloke in the checked shirt, who scoffed because my 'Bravore' have nibbled edges, keeps his polly tunnel, I'll be at his precious blooms with my pinking shears.
Competitive? Who me?

Indeed! What does one have to do for a first?? It sounds as though your offerings were most deserving and not some rarified, poly-tunnel-raised sterile and artificial-looking hothouse blooms. Good for you for entering and keeping the competition honest. And as my Dad always said "You don't enter a competition to lose."

I think these village shows bring out the competitive streak in all of us. If Brown Dog doesn't win the Dog With The Waggiest Tail this year, I'm moving somewhere else!

Beautiful vase of daffs, by the way.

It's just NOT fair, is it. These judges dotn know a good daffodil qwhen they see one.
By the way, did you realise I'd tagged you on the theme of 7 things about me?

ah, and i have daffodil envy of a different kind... it's true that there is a blue vase of them blooming on my table. but they are from the grocery store.

the ground in the yard is still frozen, and we are weeks away from seeing anything green.

What IS the difference between a daff anyway? Aren't they all lovely? Silly judges! Better luck next year (when you've found out where that polytunnel is!!!)

Well I thought your pic was lovely. Like SBS ours are only just coming out so in no position to enter competitions!
